Paperly compares each manuscript with the other manuscripts held on the platform. It does not search the wider web or commercial databases. A low result therefore does not show that a manuscript is original.

High overlap is a signal for editor review, not proof of plagiarism. Authors may be asked to explain overlap before a decision is made.
